BlizzCon revealed big news for World of Warcraft fans with the announcement of WoW Forever, a new iteration that promises to recapture the essence of the classic game. Among the key additions are more than 1,000 new quests, designed to attract both veterans and new players to the original experience. In a conversation with Josh Greenfield, a senior designer at Blizzard, details about these new quests and the impact they’ll have on the game were discussed.
How Many Quests in Total?
The addition of more than 1,000 quests to WoW Forever is a significant increase, bringing the total number of playable quests to around 3,000 to 3,500, considering that some original quests are classified as “tracking quests.” Greenfield explained that the exact count can be complex, but the new content will certainly enrich the gaming experience.
New Zones and Content
WoW Forever isn't just about new quests; the game will also introduce four new zones, each packed with 50 to 200 quests. Existing zones, such as the Shadowlands and Azshara, will also receive significant improvements, with new quests to further explore the world and deepen the story.
Inspiration for the New Quests
During the interview, Greenfield mentioned that the team drew inspiration from various sources to create the new quests, with the goal of capturing the essence of the original WoW. A famous example is the quest “The Green Hills of Stranglethorn,” which, despite being considered one of the worst, still has a charm that makes it memorable. Blizzard seeks to recapture that nostalgia while introducing new challenges.
Profound Narratives and Shadows
The new expansion also promises to continue the tradition of darker, more complex quests. Greenfield noted that, although some areas are visually appealing—such as Zephyr Isle—the stories told there can be quite dark. This approach aims to create a richer and more immersive experience for players.
Release Date and Access
Fans will be able to embark on adventures in WoW Forever starting November 4. In addition to new quests and zones, the game will feature updates to class designs and visual enhancements, as well as an expanded list of race and class options. Players with a WoW subscription will be able to access the new content at no additional cost.
Warcraft Forever Collection
For those who want a little more, Blizzard is offering the Warcraft Forever Collection, available for $80. This collection includes the new Skyborne race, early access to the beta, and name reservation, as well as the game Warcraft III: Reforged and its expansion, Forsaken Kingdom. This is a great opportunity for fans who want to dive headfirst into the new experience.
