WoW: Forever Promises a New Nostalgic Experience

WoW: Forever Promete Nova Experiência Nostálgica

World of Warcraft: Forever is set to transform the classic Azeroth experience with a variety of new content. Announced during BlizzCon 2026, the game promises to surprise players by introducing four new zones: Riverglades, Mount Hjyal, Shen'dralas, and Zephras Isle. The idea is that, if Blizzard does its job right, players won’t be able to tell what’s new from what already existed, creating a true Mandela effect.

New Zones in Azeroth

Developers Jeff Parrott, senior art director, and Josh Greenfield, senior game designer, shared details on how the new zones were created to fit seamlessly into the WoW universe. Parrott noted that the team revisited the design of the original 2004 version of WoW to understand how zones were structured back then. “Riverglades is a great example of how we were able to capture the essence of that era,” he said.

The Player Experience

The main goal of WoW: Forever is to make players feel like they're coming home. Parrott mentioned that, when exploring the new zones, the feeling should be one of familiarity, leading players to wonder if those areas existed before. “If a player asks, ‘Was this in the game?’, then we’re on the right track,” he said.

Visual Improvements

In addition to the new zones, WoW: Forever is introducing significant visual improvements to Azeroth. With dramatic updates to lighting and new water rendering technologies, the old zones will be brought to life. For example, Duskwood is darker than ever, while the Night Elf areas feel even more magical, with rays of sunlight filtering through the treetops.

Advanced Rendering Technology

Greenfield explained that one of the pillars of development is making the world the true protagonist of the game. To that end, new rendering technologies were introduced, allowing for a more realistic depiction of elements such as water and fog, making the environment more immersive. "The idea is for the world to feel alive and engaging for players," he said.

A Sense of Nostalgia

The developers are aware that the feeling of nostalgia is crucial. Greenfield emphasized that the goal is not just to recreate what the game looked like, but how players remember it. The new visual enhancements aim to evoke that memory, bringing back the sense of immersion players felt when they first started playing.

Closed Beta and Release

Currently, the closed beta for WoW: Forever is already available, allowing some players to try out the new features before the official launch, which is scheduled for November 4. The game will feature over 1,000 new quests and full controller support, as well as class changes. However, significant class changes—such as Shamans or Warlocks acting as tanks—should not be expected anytime soon.
